Getting through Menopause

“I am fortunate enough to coach lots of strong, confident women. But most of them would tell you that when they first walked into the gym, they didn't necessarily feel that way.”

The menopause meant some of my members had lost the confidence they had prior to “the change”.

It's never too late to take positive steps to rediscover that person. Below are some of the ways exercise and resistance training can help to find your old self - and a more empowered you.

Protecting your bones

A decrease in oestrogen levels is linked to a loss of bone density. This can lead to osteoporosis - a condition where the bones are very weak and susceptible to breaks.

This can sound worrying, but is something you can avoid. Regular resistance training and eating food with the right nutrients can help you. As a member, I can provide you with nutritional guidance.

Dreaded bingo wings and lower tummy fat

Our metabolic rate slows down the older we get. It’s not as easy to get away with snacking on a family-size bag of chocolate buttons, or a few large glasses of red.

Once menopause kicks in, fat will be stored around your lower abdomen and upper arms, rather than your bum or chest.

Resistance training can help to increase your metabolic rate, meaning your body is better at burning calories.

Finding renewed confidence in your body

Menopause can affect your mental health. You can feel lost, anxious, depressed, or angry - this can really dent your confidence.

Most women don’t realise just how capable they are. Gentle encouragement, compassion, and support from myself and other members can give you that extra boost.

Feeling strong and fit will help you to feel more confident in yourself.
